John Martin’s department store TV commercial Uploaded by Peter Barnes. He worked as a senior advertising executive on the John Martin’s account with Young and Rubicam Advertising and Ogilvy and Mather Advertising. The John Martin’s department store would be regarded by many as the greatest South Australian company of the last century. Peter Barnes worked on the John Martin’s advertising account with Young & Rubicam Retail from 1988 to 1990, first as Senior Art Director, then rising to Creative Director and Acting General Manager in 1989, responsible for overall operations of the retail division. After a very thorough review of Young & Rubicam Retail in July 1989, at the time of Peter’s leadership, John Martin’s reaffirmed their confidence and commitment in the retail division. The John Martin’s department store group’s advertising account was the highest billing local South Australian advertising account at that time, and much prized. Peter also worked on the John Martin’s advertising account with Ogilvy & Mather Retail in 1985 and 1986, as Senior Art Director and Group Head. Peter was asked to take a lead role during a crucial review of the John Martin’s account by the client in 1985. This resulted in Peter being awarded the Ogilvy & Mather Silver Nail in August 1985 for outstanding client service, after a successful review outcome …

heh, Thanks for posting the videos all Great Memories of working in Johnnies (Shergis Hairdressing Salon) this vid was a bit fast but I recognized a purple top with black print that I still have hanging in my clost hehehehee, from Miss JM’s El;izabeth Store… Carmel..

@carmelanneor there’s still a Shergi’s operating, just off South Rd in Croydon. Not sure whether it’s directly connected to the old Johnnies or someone’s just revived the brand, but it has the identical logo.
